Who is on the ballot
| Races | Source | Refreshed |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. Senate, U.S. House and governor, every state | Each race's Wikipedia article (the nominees in its infobox). The FEC lists every filer, including primary losers, so it can't tell us who is on the November ballot. | Every 2 days |
| Other statewide offices and state legislatures | Each state's certified candidate list from its secretary of state or election office, linked on every race | As states update |
| Florida State Senate and House; county races in the 7 counties not on VR Systems | Florida Division of Elections candidate list (the official qualifying record) | Daily |
| Florida county, city and special-district races (60 of 67 counties) | Candidate filings with each county Supervisor of Elections, on VR Systems' voterfocus.com portal | Daily |
| Mississippi | Secretary of State Candidate Qualifying List; judicial districts from courts.ms.gov | Daily |
| Local races in 45 other states | State and county election offices; see by state | Daily |
| Which districts an address is in | The U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and TIGERweb district maps (OpenStreetMap if Census doesn't know the address); county and city GIS map servers for Florida commission, school board and council districts. Your browser asks these directly; your address never reaches us. | Live |
Candidate filings can lag official status changes such as a withdrawal. Your official sample ballot from your county elections office is the final word.
Local races by state
Where a state publishes one statewide list of local candidates we use it. Where it doesn't, we read county election offices one at a time, so some counties are missing. We don't work around security checks on government websites: a few states and counties whose sites block automated reading aren't covered.

Ballot measures
| What | Source |
|---|---|
| Statewide amendments and propositions | The official ballot text from each state's election office or legislature, copied word for word; Florida's from the Division of Elections initiatives database |
| County, city, school and special-district questions | Word for word from the best official source we can reach: sample ballots, election-office question lists, or the resolution that put it on the ballot. Most link to a .gov site. |
| Who put it on the ballot | The legislature's bill record or the initiative's filing; sponsoring legislators placed with their own Shor–McCarty votes |
| "What it would cost" | Calculated only from the tax rate printed in the ballot question (1 mill = $1 per $1,000 of taxable value). We don't guess anyone's home value. |
| Florida special districts explained | The Florida Statutes chapter for each kind of district (flsenate.gov); district budgets and tax rates from each district's own site and the Florida Department of Revenue |
How and where to vote
| What | Source |
|---|---|
| Florida early voting sites, hours and deadlines | Each county's early-voting filing with the Florida Division of Elections; county Supervisors of Elections |
| Florida ballots cast so far | Division of Elections vote-by-mail and early voting statistics, refreshed three times a day |
| Mississippi | Secretary of State and county circuit clerks |
| Other states' polling places | Google's Civic Information API (the Voting Information Project), where the state provides it |
Left–right placements
| Score | Source | Who it covers |
|---|---|---|
| DW-NOMINATE | Voteview (UCLA): every roll-call vote in Congress | Anyone who has served in Congress |
| Shor–McCarty | Boris Shor, state legislator ideology data (Harvard Dataverse, January 2025 update) | State legislators who served 1993–2022 |
| DIME CFscores | Adam Bonica, Database on Ideology, Money in Politics, and Elections v4.0 (Stanford) | Anyone who has raised money since 2010 |
| AI estimate | Jev (TypeSafe AI) reading only the candidate's own public record: their Wikipedia article, campaign website and published questionnaire answers, with no party label. Re-read when those pages change. | Everyone else, when their record says enough |
Each method, and what it can't tell you, is explained on How it works.
Money and voting record
| What | Source | Refreshed |
|---|---|---|
| Federal candidates' fundraising, top donors and campaign websites | Federal Election Commission filings, 2025–26 cycle | Every 3 days |
| Outside spending for or against federal candidates | FEC independent expenditures (Schedule E). Who is behind each group is checked against its FEC record and its own website. | Every 3 days |
| Florida state and local candidates' fundraising | Florida Division of Elections campaign finance; county filings on voterfocus.com. Mississippi's campaign-finance site blocks automated reading, so we have none for Mississippi. | Every 3 days |
| Alabama state and local candidates' fundraising (738 candidates) | Secretary of State Fair Campaign Practices Act filings since November 9, 2022 (Alabama's 2026 election cycle). Candidates don't have to form a committee until they raise or spend $1,000, so some have no record. | Daily |
| Colorado state, county and special-district candidates' fundraising (248 candidates) | Secretary of State TRACER bulk contribution files. City and town candidates file with their city clerk, so they aren't included. | Daily |
| DC candidates' fundraising (30 candidates) | Office of Campaign Finance, including Fair Elections public matching funds (2026 cycle) | Daily |
| Illinois state and local candidates' fundraising (474 candidates) | State Board of Elections bulk files: quarterly reports from January 2025 plus large contributions reported since October 1. Contributions under $150 are reported only as a total. | Daily |
| Kentucky state and local candidates' fundraising (4,952 candidates) | Registry of Election Finance: money for the November general election only (primary money appears only as a balance carried over). Candidates who claimed the under-$3,000 exemption don't file contribution reports. | Daily |
| Maryland state and local candidates' fundraising (674 candidates) | State Board of Elections campaign finance: total contributions for the 2023–2026 cycle by type of donor. Loans aren't included. | Daily |
| Massachusetts state, county and district attorney candidates' fundraising (302 candidates) | Office of Campaign and Political Finance, receipts since January 2025 | Daily |
| New York state and local candidates' fundraising (468 candidates) | State Board of Elections filings, through the state's open data portal: itemized receipts in 2026-cycle reports, including public matching funds. Small unitemized gifts aren't included, and a candidate whose committee name doesn't identify them isn't shown. New York City offices file with the city, so they aren't included. | Daily |
| North Carolina state and local candidates' fundraising (599 candidates) | State Board of Elections campaign finance, receipts since January 2025. Many reports are entered as data only after a delay, and some are filed only as scanned images, so a candidate without numbers here hasn't necessarily raised $0. | Daily |
| Virginia state and local candidates' fundraising (351 candidates) | Department of Elections campaign finance: each committee's total receipts for this election cycle from its latest report, from a copy of the Department's files downloaded October 27, 2026 (its bulk files block automated requests). Totals only, no donor list. | One-time |
| Washington state and local candidates' fundraising (822 candidates) | Public Disclosure Commission open data (data.wa.gov): every reported contribution, with the PDC's own donor categories | Daily |
| Members of Congress: missed votes, party-line votes, key votes | Voteview roll calls for the current Congress | Monthly |
| Bills sponsored | Congress.gov | Every 3 days |
Candidate and judge profiles
- Candidates: occupation, background and priorities from the candidate's own campaign site, questionnaires they answered for local newspapers, TV stations and other voter guides, their filings, and local news reports. Every item links where it came from; if we found nothing, the page says nothing rather than guess.
- Endorsements: each race's Wikipedia article (every candidate's endorsers, with citations), Wikipedia's list of Donald Trump's 2026 endorsements, and in Florida the slates each county's Republican and Democratic committees published.
- Judges up for retention: the courts' own biographies, official judicial performance evaluations where a state has them (Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, Missouri) and state bar evaluations (Nebraska, Wyoming), the Florida Bar's merit retention biographies and its last members' poll (2020), and judicial discipline records. Membership in the Federalist Society or the American Constitution Society, and quotes on their approach, appear only where the judge disclosed them in their own application, court biography or remarks.
- Links: each person's campaign site, Wikipedia, FEC page and a Ballotpedia search, gathered from all of the above.
Polls and past results
| What | Source |
|---|---|
| Polls for Senate, governor and statewide measures | Wikipedia's poll tables, used as an index: each poll links the pollster's own release. Only polls in the field since September 1; no averages or predictions. |
| House incumbents' 2024 result | Wikipedia's 2024 House election tables, which cite each state's certified results |
| Senators' last result | MIT Election Data and Science Lab, U.S. Senate results 1976–2024 |
Our rules for using sources
- Official sources first. Who is on the ballot and what a measure says come from election offices whenever we can reach them.
- Same rules for every candidate and party. A source used for one candidate is used for all of them in that race.
- Nothing invented. If a source doesn't say it, we don't show it. AI estimates are labeled, show their confidence, and link what they read.
- No private data. We don't buy voter files or data, and we drop the addresses, phone numbers and emails that some candidate lists include.
- No bypassing. We don't get around logins, paywalls or bot checks; when a site blocks us, that data is missing and we say so.
- Nonpartisan. We never endorse a candidate or tell you how to vote.
Spot something wrong? Email support@spectrumvote.com with the page and the source, and we'll fix it.
