Background

Chicago alderperson, 3rd Ward

Elected 3rd Ward alderperson in 2007, defeating incumbent Dorothy Tillman in a runoff. Previously served as deputy commissioner of neighborhood planning under Mayors Eugene Sawyer and Richard M. Daley. Was named chair of the City Council's Finance Committee in 2023, the first woman in that role, after chairing the Budget Committee.
