Elected 41st Ward alderman in the April 2015 runoff, unseating Ald. Mary O'Connor. Before that he was a Chicago firefighter and previously a Chicago police officer in the 15th (Austin) District. Serves as vice chair of the City Council Committee on Committees and Rules.
