What local offices are elected in Alaska?
Alaska has boroughs instead of counties. Each organized borough elects a mayor and an assembly; Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka and the other unified city-boroughs elect one assembly and mayor for both. There is no elected sheriff, clerk or assessor: the state handles those jobs. Cities elect a mayor and council, and borough, city and regional school districts elect their boards. In the Unorganized Borough, the census areas have no borough government. Local races are nonpartisan.
