Each New Mexico county elects a board of county commissioners (three or five members, most by district; Los Alamos, an incorporated county, elects a seven-member council at large), a county clerk, treasurer, assessor, sheriff and probate judge, for four-year staggered terms on a partisan ballot. District attorneys are elected by judicial district. School boards and city and village offices are elected in odd-year local elections on a nonpartisan ballot.
