Background

House Bill 1341 is a local act sponsored by Representatives McCollum, Dunahoo, Cox, Clark, Dubnik and others. It appears on the Governor's list of 2026 signed legislation.

The act says the $10,000 exemption is in addition to, not in place of, other Hall County homestead exemptions from county-purpose taxes. It does not apply to state, school or municipal taxes.

For this exemption, the act counts no more than five contiguous acres as homestead property.

The act says anyone who has applied for and is eligible for the statewide homestead exemption as of December 31, 2026 qualifies automatically. If voters approve, the exemption applies to tax years beginning January 1, 2027.

Put on the ballot by Georgia General Assembly, HB 1341 (local act, 2026 session), signed by the Governor.
