Background

On August 12, 2026, the St. Charles Township Board approved Refuse Collection Referendum Resolution #08-12-26-1, placing this question on the November 3 ballot, by a 5-0 vote, according to the meeting minutes.

At the July meeting, the board voted 4-0 to table the referendum until August while board member Drew Watson contacted other townships and haulers about rates; Pat Griffin said that if the referendum passes it would give the township authority to negotiate and enter into a contract, according to the July minutes.

Supervisor Terry Cross said at the August meeting that if the question passes, the board would get quotes for service, and a resident asked for more information on the proposal, according to the minutes.
