Oregon-Davis School Corporation — Operating Referendum (Extension) (Starke County)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:03 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Oregon-Davis School Corporation school district voters

What it does
Shall the Oregon-Davis School Corporation continue to increase property taxes paid to the school corporation for no more than eight (8) years for the purpose of funding current educational and operational expenses by imposing a property tax rate that does not exceed nineteen cents ($0.19) and results in a maximum annual amount that does not exceed $800,000? If this operating referendum is NOT approved by the voters, for a median residence of $150,000, the property's annual tax bill would decrease by $173 per year. If this operating referendum public question is approved by the voters, it would be renewal of the most recent operating referendum public question passed in 2018 with a property tax rate of twenty-nine cents ($0.29).
A YES vote means
Oregon-Davis School Corporation would continue its referendum property tax for up to eight years, renewing its 2018 referendum tax (then $0.29), at a rate of up to $0.19 and no more than $800,000 a year, to fund current educational and operating expenses.
A NO vote means
The referendum tax would not continue; a median $150,000 home's yearly tax bill would drop by $173.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.

Background

According to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, Oregon-Davis School Corporation submitted its board resolution proposing the referendum on June 17, 2026, at a tax rate of $0.19 per $100 of assessed value.

The Starke County Auditor certified the corporation's median household assessed value at $150,000, and estimated that the annual tax bill on that home would fall by $173 if the referendum is not approved.

The question is a renewal of the operating referendum voters approved in 2018.

The department found the proposed ballot language complied with Indiana law and approved it on June 22, 2026.

Put on the ballot by Oregon-Davis School Corporation Board of School Trustees (resolution submitted to DLGF June 17, 2026; board vote not stated in the DLGF determination).
