What local offices are elected in Massachusetts?
Every county elects a sheriff, a register of probate, a clerk of courts and one or more registers of deeds, and each of eleven districts elects a district attorney, all on the partisan state ballot. Only Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Norfolk and Plymouth still elect county commissioners (Barnstable also an Assembly of Delegates) and, in some, a county treasurer; elsewhere county government was abolished. Cities and towns elect their own mayors, councils, select boards and school committees.
