City of Walker — Proposal to Authorize a New Additional Millage for Public Safety of 1.75 Mills (Kent County)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Walker voters

What it does
Shall Section 9.5, Chapter IX, of the City of Walker Charter be amended to authorize a new additional millage of 1.75 mills ($1.75 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) to be levied solely for providing funds for capital and operating expenses for police and fire for a period of ten (10) years from 2027 to 2036? (If levied, the additional 1.75 mills are estimated to raise $3,065,105 in the first year of the levy. To the extent required by law, a portion of the revenues from this millage will be disbursed to the City's Brownfield Redevelopment and Downtown Development Authorities.)
A YES vote means
Walker's charter would allow a new 1.75 mill tax for ten years, 2027 to 2036, only for police and fire capital and operating costs, raising about $3,065,105 the first year.
A NO vote means
Walker would not add this 1.75 mill public safety millage.
What it would cost
1.75 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $175 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.
