Background

According to the Timothy Town Board's June 11, 2026 minutes, the board learned while preparing for the November election that its 2025 annual-meeting decision to combine the clerk and treasurer offices had not been done properly. Based on advice from the Minnesota Association of Townships, it concluded that combining the roles has to go to voters.

The minutes say supervisors voted to submit Option B, which would let the board appoint the clerk, the treasurer or both. Supervisor Dawn Rubner's motion said the change was meant to prevent the township's dissolution because of a lack of residents willing to serve.

The minutes say an appointee would not need to live in the township, and that approval of Option B is contingent on voters also approving a separate Option D question to combine the two offices.

Put on the ballot by Timothy Town Board, June 11, 2026 (motion carried; tally not recorded).
