Background

New London-Spicer School District says its School Board voted unanimously on July 13, 2026 to place the operating levy on the ballot after months of reviewing enrollment, budget cuts, rising costs and state funding.

The district says the levy relies on the state's new Seasonal Tax Base Replacement Aid. It says year-round residents would pay no additional school taxes and seasonal-recreational properties would pay none either, because the state provides the funds.

The district says it has already made nearly $750,000 in budget reductions. It says it has accomplished nearly every priority from its 2021 referendum except long-term financial stability.
