Background

Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools says the levy would replace the current $623.97-per-student operating levy with $1,740.97 per student for 10 years starting in 2027-28. It estimates the cost at about $46 a month on a $525,000 home.

The Prior Lake News Compass reported that at its June 8, 2026 meeting the board voted 4-3 to use the higher $46-a-month figure rather than a lower $32 option that would have set the levy at $1,385.97 per student. Smith, Frantz, Bullyan and Olstad voted for the higher amount; Atkinson, Johnson and Mason preferred the lower one.

The newspaper reported the higher amount would raise about $10.27 million in its first year. It said the district has cut $8.1 million from its general fund since 2024, approved another $4.15 million in reductions, and expects about $3 million more for 2027-28 regardless of the outcome.

The district says Question 2, a capital projects levy of about $3.8 million a year, can only take effect if this question passes.

Put on the ballot by Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board (ISD 719), June 8, 2026 (4-3 on the levy amount, as reported by the Prior Lake News Compass).
