Background
According to the city, Lee's Summit City Council approved its intent on April 15, 2025 to provide solid waste collection for single-family homes and buildings of up to four units, notified haulers on June 18, 2025, and later approved an ordinance calling this election.
The city says it would contract the service through a Request for Proposals reviewed by the council, excluding commercial accounts and dwellings larger than four-plexes; homeowners associations that already contract for trash service could keep those arrangements.
The city says it does not plan to collect a tax or fee or pay the contractor from its budget; customers would pay the hauler directly.
The city says it tried to move to citywide service in 2011, but the effort did not go forward.
