Cherokee County — Alcohol Referendum

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 3:09 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the South Carolina Department of Revenue be authorized to issue temporary permits in Cherokee County for a period not to exceed twenty-four hours to allow the possession, sale, and consumption of alcoholic liquors by the drink to bona fide nonprofit organizations and business establishments otherwise authorized to be licensed for consumption-on-premises sales and to allow the sale of beer and wine at permitted off-premises locations without regard to the days or hours of sales?
A YES vote means
The state could issue temporary permits of up to 24 hours in Cherokee County for nonprofits and eligible businesses to sell liquor by the drink, and beer and wine could be sold at permitted off-premises locations without limits on days or hours.
A NO vote means
These temporary liquor-by-the-drink permits would not be authorized, and the day and hour limits on off-premises beer and wine sales would not be removed.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.
