Background
The Sussex County Board of Supervisors' July 16, 2026 meeting packet included Resolution #26-94, which asks the Sussex Circuit Court to order this referendum under Virginia Code §58.1-605.1. The packet recommended approval; minutes recording the vote are not yet posted.
According to the packet, the Sussex County School Board voted on July 9, 2026 to approve a resolution supporting the county placing the 1% sales tax referendum on the ballot.
The draft resolution says the tax would expire when bonds or loans for the school projects are repaid, or by June 30, 2046 if the projects are not financed with debt.
