Background
In a July 22, 2026 press release, York County said the Board of Supervisors had voted the previous day to approve a resolution placing the School Capital Funding Referendum on the November ballot. The county said the action itself does not enact any tax.
The county estimated the tax would raise about $12 million a year if approved. It said state law limits the money to new school construction and major renovation, and it cannot be used for operations or salaries.
