- What it does
- The Board of Fire Commissioners of Grant County Fire Protection District No. 7 adopted Resolution No. 07082026-A concerning a proposition to fund emergency medical services. This proposition would authorize the board of commissioners to replace the last two years of the existing voter approved EMS levy and continue to fund emergency medical services for its citizens by imposing a regular property tax levy of $.50 per $1,000.00 of assessed valuation for a period of six consecutive years to be first levied in 2026 and collected beginning in 2027. Should this proposition be enacted into law?
- A YES vote means
- Grant County Fire Protection District No. 7 would replace the last two years of its EMS levy with a $.50 per $1,000 property tax for six years, collected starting in 2027, for emergency medical services.
- A NO vote means
- The District's existing EMS levy would not be replaced with this six-year levy.
- What it would cost
- 0.5 mills for 6 years: $50 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
