What local offices are elected in Washington?
Most counties elect three commissioners (Spokane and Thurston elect five), and the charter counties (King, Pierce, Snohomish, Whatcom, Clark, San Juan) a county council, with an elected executive in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Whatcom. Counties also elect an assessor, auditor, clerk, prosecuting attorney, sheriff and treasurer, and some a coroner. County races are partisan except where a charter makes them nonpartisan. Cities elect a mayor (or a council that picks one) and council, and school and port districts elect their boards, all on nonpartisan ballots.
