- What it does
- Proposition No. 1 Spokane County Fire Protection District No. 2 Proposition Reauthorizing and Continuing Regular Emergency Medical Services Property Tax Levy The Board of Fire Commissioners of Spokane County Fire District No. 2 adopted Resolution 2026-4 concerning a proposition to continue its emergency medical services property tax levy. This proposition would authorize the board of commissioners to continue to fund emergency medical services for its citizens by renewing a regular property tax levy of $.50 per $1,000.00 of assessed valuation for a period of six consecutive years to be collected beginning in 2027. Should this proposition be enacted into law?
- A YES vote means
- Spokane County Fire Protection District No. 2 would renew its EMS property tax of $.50 per $1,000 of assessed value for six years, collected starting in 2027.
- A NO vote means
- The District's EMS property tax would not be renewed.
- What it would cost
- 0.5 mills for 6 years: $50 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
