Background
Voters approved a $3 million-per-year operational referendum in 2023 that expires after the 2026-27 school year; the district says the new $2.75 million-per-year request would replace it, not add to it.
The district lists declining enrollment, low state aid, state revenue limits, rising operating costs and aging buildings as reasons for the request.
The district says it has cut about $600,000 through administrative consolidation and staff reductions and is consolidating from three school buildings to two, which it estimates will save about $1.4 million in 2026-27 and about $2.3 million a year after that.
The district estimates the referendum portion of the tax bill on a $100,000 property would fall from $134 to $124 a year.
