Background
The district says voters approved a 10-year, $16.5 million operational referendum in 2017, and that authority ends after the 2026-27 school year.
The district calls the new request tax-rate neutral, saying it maintains the current voter-approved tax levy rather than raising it.
The district cites state revenue that has not kept up with inflation, a per-pupil revenue limit of $11,650 that it calls one of the lowest in the state, rising costs and declining enrollment.
The district says it has consolidated six schools, cut more than 100 positions and made 10% departmental budget cuts three years in a row; Fox 11 reported the school board approved the November referendum unanimously in July 2026.
