Background

The Board of Education voted unanimously in August 2026 to place the four-year, non-recurring operational referendum on the ballot, according to the district.

Voters approved a four-year operational referendum in 2022 that expires after the 2026-27 school year; the district says the first year of the new request, $24.9 million, would be no increase over 2026-27, followed by yearly increases to $34.6 million.

The district estimates the tax impact rises by $21, $40 and $59 per $100,000 of fair market value in years 2 through 4, and says it would still need to make budget reductions even if the referendum passes.

In a May 2026 district survey, 66% of respondents said they would likely support a November 2026 operational referendum, according to the district.

Put on the ballot by Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Board of Education, unanimous, August 2026 (exact date not on the district page).
