Background

On August 17, 2026 the Lake Mills Area School District Board of Education unanimously approved the resolution placing the $2.9 million-per-year, four-year operational referendum on the November ballot, according to the district.

The district says Lake Mills has operated for more than a decade without an operational referendum, crediting conservative budgeting, below-average teacher salaries and debt refinancing.

The district says the money would pay for employee compensation, student programs and class sizes, transportation, technology and building maintenance.

The district estimates the tax impact at 40 cents per $1,000 of 2026 fair market value, or $40 per $100,000.

Put on the ballot by Lake Mills Area School District Board of Education, unanimous, August 17, 2026.
