- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
Edgar voters approved an operating referendum on April 6, 2022 for $950,000 a year for five years, which expires June 30, 2027; the district says the new $1.4 million request replaces that funding rather than adding to it.
The district attributes the larger request to state funding that has been flat for three years, rising costs and underfunded mandates, and says vouchers cost it over $380,000 this year.
The district says its property tax levy fell about 4% over the past 10 years, and projects the total levy would decline from about $2.81 million in 2027-28 to about $2.25 million by 2031-32 if the referendum passes.
