Background
Campbell County has collected the optional 1% sales and use tax, known locally as "Penny Power," since 1976, splitting the money among the City of Gillette, Campbell County government and the Town of Wright, according to the county.
Voters last renewed the tax in November 2022, according to the City of Gillette.
The county says that although the revenue is classified as general purpose, its share is limited to lawful county responsibilities under Wyoming Statute Title 18, such as public safety, infrastructure and essential services.
