What local offices are elected in Alabama?
Each county elects a county commission (in some counties with an elected chairman, in others chaired by the probate judge), a judge of probate, circuit clerk, sheriff, coroner, and a revenue commissioner or a tax assessor and tax collector, and most elect their county board of education (some also a superintendent). County races are partisan, with staggered four- and six-year terms. Cities and towns elect a mayor and council.
