Background
According to the informational pamphlet issued by the Coconino County School Superintendent, the Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board called this election to continue the existing 15% maintenance and operation override, which voters authorized on November 8, 2022, for seven more years.
The pamphlet estimates the override at $9,700,000 for fiscal year 2027/2028 and an estimated secondary tax rate of $0.51 per $100 of net assessed valuation, which it says is approximately equal to the current override's rate; its tax table estimates $180.91 a year for a residence of average assessed value ($354,721 limited property value).
If the override is not approved, the pamphlet says the existing override will phase out, reduced by one-third in 2028/2029 and another one-third in 2029/2030.
The pamphlet lists the programs it would continue funding, including elementary art, music and physical education, current class sizes, full-day kindergarten and preschool.
