Background

The Fresno County Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 26-004 on April 21, 2026 to create a transient occupancy (hotel) tax in the unincorporated area, which takes effect only if approved by voters; the Board then called this countywide election by Resolution No. 26-257 on June 30, 2026, by a 5-0 vote, according to the resolution.

The resolution states that the tax would be a general tax requiring a simple majority, and that county staff held virtual and in-person community meetings on revenue for county services such as public safety, wildfire and disaster response, 911, roads, health, water infrastructure and parks.

Although the tax applies only to stays in the unincorporated area, voters in both incorporated cities and unincorporated areas vote on it, according to the resolution.

Put on the ballot by Fresno County Board of Supervisors, 5-0, June 30, 2026 (Resolution No. 26-257; Ordinance No. 26-004 adopted April 21, 2026).
