What local offices are elected in California?
Every county elects a board of supervisors, a sheriff, a district attorney and an assessor; that's in the state constitution. Most also elect other officers (an auditor-controller, clerk-recorder, treasurer-tax collector, superintendent of schools), but some counties appoint them, so we list the four offices every county elects. County races are nonpartisan.
