Background

The Pacifica City Council placed Measure BB on the ballot; it would enact a 1% (1 cent per dollar) general sales tax and needs a simple majority, according to the City Attorney's impartial analysis.

The tax would be paid by residents and visitors on retail purchases in Pacifica in addition to existing sales taxes, with groceries and prescription medicine exempt; as a general tax, its revenue would go to the general fund for any municipal purpose.

The City estimates about $5,000,000 a year until ended by voters, with an annual audit presented to the City Council.
