Background

This question reached the ballot through a citizen petition under C.R.S. 30-10-306.5(3), which required signatures of at least 8% of the county's qualified electors and required the petition to offer two alternative methods of electing five commissioners, according to Boulder County.

Under Resolution 2026-056, 13,064 valid signatures were needed, based on 2022 votes for Secretary of State, and the Clerk and Recorder issued a statement of sufficiency on August 5, 2026, after the petition was filed by the July 14 deadline.

On August 25, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution 2026-056 certifying the petition's ballot language as submitted; the county says it did not modify the language.

Question 201 matters only if voters approve Question 200 expanding the board from three to five members; in that case the county says five commissioners would take office in January 2029, after a redistricting commission convened in 2027 draws districts and the seats appear on the November 2028 ballot.

Put on the ballot by Citizen petition; certified by the Boulder County Board of Commissioners, August 25, 2026 (Resolution 2026-056).
