Background
The Charter Revision Commission presented its 2026 report to the Board of Selectmen on June 15, 2026, and on July 20, 2026 the board voted 7–0 to accept the final report and send the proposed amendments to the November 3, 2026 ballot, according to the board's minutes.
Under the proposal, the budget would go to the Board of Selectmen by March 22 instead of March 15, and the Annual Town Budget Meeting would move from the second Monday in May to the first Monday, according to the town's handout.
The two public hearings would become one joint hearing, and the approved budget would be posted 7 days before the Annual Town Budget Meeting instead of 15, according to the handout.
The first referendum would be held 7 to 14 days after the budget meeting instead of 14 to 21 days, and after a failed referendum the next one would fall on the second Saturday following, according to the handout.
