Maui County Charter Amendment Question 7 — Independent Nomination Board

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the Charter be amended, effective immediately, to repeal the parts of the 2022 Charter amendment that created the Independent Nomination Board and related procedures for nominations for various County officers?
A YES vote means
The parts of the 2022 charter amendment that created the Independent Nomination Board and its nomination procedures for county officers would be repealed right away.
A NO vote means
The Independent Nomination Board and its nomination procedures would stay in the charter.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Hawaii adds a second test for constitutional amendments: YES must also equal at least half of all ballots cast in the election, so leaving it blank works against it.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.
