City of Highland Park — Binding Public Question To Establish Term Limits For The Elected Offices Of Mayor And Councilmember (Lake County)
Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Highland Park voters
Results: Illinois doesn't post unofficial results statewide: each of its 108 county and city election authorities posts its own. The State Board of Elections posts official results after the state canvass in December. We'll add Illinois's results once the state posts them. Official results site.
- What it does
- Shall the City of Highland Park, beginning with the terms of office that commence at the April 2027 consolidated election and for each election thereafter, limit the terms of the office of Mayor and of the office of Councilmember so that no person shall be eligible to hold that respective office if that person has been previously elected to no more than two full four-year terms for that office, whether or not those terms were served consecutively, or if holding that office would cause that person to serve in that office for more than a combined total of ten years? In accordance with Illinois law, terms of office that commenced before the April 2027 consolidated election will not be considered in determining whether a person has reached these limits.
- A YES vote means
- Starting with terms beginning at the April 2027 election, no one could serve as Highland Park Mayor or Councilmember after two full four-year terms in that office, or for more than ten years total; earlier terms would not count.
- A NO vote means
- Highland Park would not establish these term limits.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
