Background
The Lake Zurich Village Board's August 3, 2026 agenda included an ordinance (assigned No. 2026-08-677) placing this bond question on the November 3 ballot; the village says it is non-home-rule, so voter approval is required to issue the bonds.
According to the agenda summary, staff concluded that renovating Fire Station 1 at 321 S. Buesching Road is not feasible because of site limitations, and the new station would be built on village-owned property at the northwest corner of Route 22 and South Old Rand Road.
The village says the current station, occupied in 1980 and designed for an all-volunteer department, has flooding, roof leaks, foundation issues and ADA concerns, and that a 2020 referendum for a new station did not pass.
The village estimates the 20-year bonds would cost $189 a year, about $16 a month, for a home with a $450,000 market value.
