What local offices are elected in Illinois?
Each county elects a county board (a board of commissioners in a few counties; Cook has a Board President and 17 commissioners), a county clerk, treasurer, sheriff, state's attorney and circuit clerk, and in most counties a coroner, for four-year terms; most regions also elect a regional superintendent of schools, often across several counties. County races are partisan and staggered: the clerk, treasurer and sheriff are elected with the governor, the state's attorney, circuit clerk and coroner with the president. Townships, cities, villages and school districts elect their officers in odd-year spring elections. Listed so far: county boards and officers in Cook and the 15 largest counties outside it except McHenry and Kendall; elsewhere only the clerk, circuit clerk and regional superintendent (no official statewide list of the rest).
