Background
On July 9, 2026, the Limestone Township Fire Protection District board voted 3-1, with Trustee Campen voting no and Trustee Graves absent, to adopt referendum resolutions for this emergency and rescue tax (70 ILCS 705/24) and for a separate corporate fund rate increase (70 ILCS 705/14), according to the meeting minutes.
Deputy Chief Kaps told the board at a June 29 special meeting that each proposal would cost about $39 a year on a $100,000 home based on the district's 2025 EAV, or about $78 a year if both pass, according to the minutes.
The board held a public hearing on both propositions on August 13, 2026, where the special tax was presented at a rate not to exceed 0.10% for emergency and rescue crews and equipment and the corporate rate increase from 0.30% to 0.40%, according to the hearing minutes.
