- What it does
- Shall the River Forest Community School Corporation continue to increase property taxes paid to the School Corporation for no more than eight (8) years for the purpose of sustaining educational and operational funding stability in response to reductions in property tax revenue, maintaining student transportation, supporting and retaining teachers and staff, and supporting essential health and safety initiatives, including the retention of school resource officers by imposing a property tax rate that does not exceed $0.9912 and results in a maximum annual amount that does not exceed $3,000,000. If this operating referendum public question is NOT approved by the voters, for a median residence of $150,000, the property's annual tax bill would decrease by $589 per year. If this operating referendum public question is approved by the voters, it would be a renewal of the most recent operating referendum public question passed in 2019 with a property tax rate of $1.19.
- A YES vote means
- River Forest Community School Corporation would continue its referendum property tax for up to eight years, renewing its 2019 referendum tax (then $1.19), at a rate of up to $0.9912 and no more than $3,000,000 a year, to fund transportation, teacher and staff retention, and health and safety including school resource officers.
- A NO vote means
- The referendum tax would not continue; a median $150,000 home's yearly tax bill would drop by $589.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Unclear: our AI read of the official summary isn't confident enough (we require 70%) to place this on the left–right spectrum, so we don't. Read the summary and decide for yourself.
Background

The Lake County Auditor certified the corporation's median household assessed value at $150,000, and estimated that the annual tax bill on that home would fall by $589 if the referendum is not approved.
