- What it does
- Shall Bienville Parish Fire Protection District No. 6, State of Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a 7.85 mills tax (the "Tax") on all property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $303,700 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, operating and/or purchasing fire protection equipment and facilities for the District, including payment of salaries in connection therewith, said millage to represent a .66 mills increase (due to reappraisal) over the 7.19 mills tax authorized to be levied through the year 2027 pursuant to an election held on December 10, 2016, provided that a portion of the Tax proceeds is required to be contributed to state and statewide retirement systems as provided in R.S. 11:82?
- A YES vote means
- Bienville Fire Protection District No. 6 would continue a 7.85-mill property tax from 2028 through 2037 for fire equipment, facilities and salaries, up 0.66 mills (due to reappraisal) from the 7.19 mills authorized through 2027.
- A NO vote means
- The district would not continue the tax for 2028 through 2037; the 7.19-mill authorization runs through 2027.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
This would continue the district's fire tax for 2028–2037 at 7.85 mills, which the proposition says is a 0.66-mill increase due to reappraisal over the 7.19 mills voters approved on December 10, 2016.
The tax is estimated to raise $303,700 a year for fire equipment, facilities and salaries, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State's proposition text.
The State Bond Commission's June 18, 2026 agenda lists the election request (item L26-166).
