Jefferson Davis Parish — Road Sales Tax District No. 1 Proposition (Sales Tax Renewal)
Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Only voters in this district
Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall Road Sales Tax District No. 1 of the Parish of Jefferson Davis, State of Louisiana (the "District"), be authorized to continue to levy and collect a 2% sales and use tax (the "Tax") in accordance with Louisiana law (an estimated $3,900,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of 20 years from and after January 1, 2027, with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying the reasonable and necessary costs and expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) to be dedicated and used by the District for the purpose of constructing, improving, maintaining and resurfacing Parish roads within the District (but specifically excluding employees' salaries, wages and benefits)?
- A YES vote means
- Jefferson Davis Road Sales Tax District No. 1 would continue a 2% sales and use tax for 20 years after January 1, 2027, to build, improve, maintain and resurface parish roads, not for employee pay or benefits.
- A NO vote means
- The district would not continue the 2% sales and use tax for the 20 years after January 1, 2027.
- What it would cost
- 2% sales tax for 20 years: $2 on a $100 taxable purchase. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
This is a renewal: the proposition asks whether Road Sales Tax District No. 1 of Jefferson Davis Parish may continue to levy its existing 2% sales and use tax for 20 years from January 1, 2027, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State's proposition text.
The Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury requested the election, and the State Bond Commission's June 18, 2026 agenda lists the request (item L26-176) for a 2% sales tax for 20 years, beginning January 1, 2027, for constructing, improving, maintaining and resurfacing roads.
The proposition estimates the tax will raise $3,900,000 a year and excludes employees' salaries, wages and benefits from the uses of the money.
