Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Only voters in this district
Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall Hospital Service District No. 2 of the Parish of Lafourche, State of Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a 2 mills tax on all the property subject to taxation in the District for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037 (an estimated $347,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating the hospital facilities of the District?
- A YES vote means
- Lafourche Hospital Service District No. 2 would continue its 2-mill property tax from 2028 through 2037 to build, maintain and run the district's hospital facilities.
- A NO vote means
- The district would not continue the 2-mill property tax for 2028 through 2037.
- What it would cost
- 2 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $200 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $20 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
