Natchitoches Parish — Fire Protection District No. 5 Proposition (Millage Renewal)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Only voters in this district

What it does
Shall Fire Protection District No. 5 of the Parish of Natchitoches, State of Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a special tax of 7.19 mills (the "Tax") on all property subject to taxation within the District for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037 (an estimated $191,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and operating the District's fire protection facilities, including equipment and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, provided that a portion of the Tax proceeds is required to be contributed to state and statewide retirement systems as provided in R.S. 11:82?
A YES vote means
Natchitoches Fire Protection District No. 5 would continue its 7.19-mill property tax from 2028 through 2037 for fire facilities, equipment and water, with part going to state retirement systems.
A NO vote means
The district would not continue the 7.19-mill property tax for 2028 through 2037.
What it would cost
7.19 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $719 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $71.90 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.
