Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Only voters in this district
Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall Washington Parish Fire Protection District Number 2, State of Louisiana (the "District"), levy a special tax of eight (8) mills on all property subject to taxation within the District (an estimated $188,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and/or operating fire protection facilities and equipment for the District and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes?
- A YES vote means
- Washington Parish Fire Protection District Number 2 would levy an 8-mill property tax from 2028 through 2037 for fire facilities, equipment and water for fire protection.
- A NO vote means
- The district would not levy this 8-mill property tax for 2028 through 2037.
- What it would cost
- 8 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $800 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $80 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
Washington Parish Fire Protection District No. 2 sought State Bond Commission approval for this election (item L26-197 on the Commission's June 18, 2026 agenda), described as an 8.0-mill tax for 10 years, 2028-2037, for fire protection facilities and equipment and the cost of obtaining water for fire protection.
According to the proposition text filed with the Secretary of State, the tax is estimated to raise $188,000 a year.
