What it does
Shall Sales Tax District No. 1 of the Parish of West Feliciana, State of Louisiana (the "District"), be authorized to levy and collect a tax of 1/2% (the "Tax"), in accordance with Louisiana law (an estimated $1,253,500 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of 7 years, commencing January 1, 2027, for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, supporting and/or operating recreational parks, facilities, equipment, programs and services, provided at the discretion of the District's governing authority, up to twenty-five percent (25%) of the annual proceeds of the Tax may be used for the purposes of maintaining and supporting social services and programs?
A YES vote means
West Feliciana Sales Tax District No. 1 would levy a 1/2% sales tax for 7 years starting January 1, 2027, for recreational parks, facilities and programs, with up to 25% a year allowed for social services and programs.
A NO vote means
The district would not levy this 1/2% sales tax.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

Background

According to the proposition text filed with the Louisiana Secretary of State, the 1/2% sales tax would run for 7 years starting January 1, 2027, and is estimated to raise $1,253,500 a year for recreational parks, facilities, equipment, programs and services, with up to 25% of annual proceeds usable for social services and programs.

The Advocate reported that the existing half-cent sales tax, which supports recreation and parks, expires September 30, so the question could not be styled as a renewal; the outlet reported that the parish's attorney told the Parish Council on June 8, 2026 that the tax would be on the November 3 ballot.

The Advocate also reported that West Feliciana's home-rule charter requires tax elections to coincide with congressional or gubernatorial elections.

Put on the ballot by Governing authority of Sales Tax District No. 1 of West Feliciana Parish; resolution number and vote not found in a public record.
