- What it does
- Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be imposed each year for all purposes on real and personal property in Scio Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, be increased as provided in Section 6, Article IX of the Michigan Constitution by the levy 0.5 mills ($0.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of six (6) years, beginning with the December 1, 2027 tax levy and continuing through 2032 inclusive, for the purpose of providing dedicated township funding to be used to leverage other sources including private, Washtenaw County, or the state of Michigan, for the maintenance, repair, preservation, reconstruction, and improvement of local public roads as certified by Michigan Department of Transportation, bridges, bike lanes, crosswalks, and culverts within the Township, including related engineering, inspections, drainage, and administrative costs? This millage is estimated to raise approximately $984,536.00 in the first year the millage is levied.
- A YES vote means
- Scio Township would levy 0.5 mills for six years, December 2027 through 2032, for local roads, bridges, bike lanes, crosswalks and culverts, used to leverage other funding, raising about $984,536.00 the first year.
- A NO vote means
- Scio Township would not levy this road, bridge and culvert millage.
- What it would cost
- 0.5 mills (estimated) for 6 years: $50 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
