What it does
The school board of Independent School District No. 595 (East Grand Forks) has proposed to increase its general education revenue by $300 per pupil. The proposed referendum revenue authorization would be applicable for ten years beginning with taxes payable in 2027, and increase each year by the rate of inflation beginning with taxes payable in 2028, unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law. BY VOTING "YES" ON THIS BALLOT QUESTION, YOU ARE VOTING FOR A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.

Background

In materials prepared and paid for by East Grand Forks Public Schools, the district says the School Board voted to put three questions on the November 3, 2026 ballot. It says it is the only district in the area without an operating levy.

The district's fact sheet says Question 1 would raise $600,000 a year for 10 years. It says the money would maintain reasonable class sizes, retain the school resource officer position, attract and keep staff, and maintain academic programming.

The fact sheet traces the plan to a facilities assessment started in May 2025, staff and community input sessions, and an April 2026 mailed survey.
