Background

According to the city's explanatory statement, King City's Charter was last revised in 2006, and a Charter Review Committee created by the City Council met publicly from April 2025 through January 2026 before the council referred this measure.

The statement says the measure would amend and restate the Charter while keeping the council-manager form of government, the current number of councilors and the current method of selecting the mayor.

The ballot summary says the measure would modernize the text to closely mirror the League of Oregon Cities model charter, add a charter review section, and remove the prohibition on councilor compensation.

It would move the detailed duties of the City Manager, Municipal Judge and City Attorney out of the Charter, to be set by ordinance or resolution instead.

Put on the ballot by King City City Council (referral date and vote not stated); notice dated July 16, 2026.
