Background
The Colton City Council placed this measure on the ballot on March 3, 2026 by Resolution No. R-19-26, according to the City Attorney's impartial analysis.
According to the analysis, Colton's City Treasurer is elected to a four-year term; the office was last elected in November 2024 and the current term ends in November 2028. State law lets general law cities have an elected or appointed treasurer, but changing to appointed requires voter approval.
If approved, the City Council would appoint the next treasurer when the current term ends and set minimum education and training requirements; a simple majority is required.
