Background

The Board of Selectmen had recommended in July 2026 that the two added selectman seats be dropped, but on August 5, 2026 the Charter Revision Commission voted unanimously to keep them in its final report, according to the commission's minutes.

At a special meeting on August 24, 2026, the three-member Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to put the change from one First Selectman and two Selectmen to one First Selectman and four Selectmen on the ballot as its own question, according to the board's meeting motions.

The same night the board voted unanimously to approve explanatory text for the November 2026 ballot, according to the motions.

Put on the ballot by Durham Board of Selectmen, unanimous, August 24, 2026 (motion to make separate ballot questions).
